Pillare in Time by Erin PryorGood morning, all! Today, in place of the usual snarking on movies and odd doodles from my sketchpad, I’m pleased to welcome Erin Pryor, author of Pillars in Time, a time travel romance. Erin has stopped by for an interview and book giveaway.

Let’s start with some warm-up questions.

-What’s in your refrigerator right now?
Milk is #1. I have kids so I gotta give them protein. Some Italian sausages, Lunchable’s, cheese, and diet soda.

-It’s up to you to come up with a new national holiday. A real holiday, the kind that means I get the day off. What would it be?
National Women’s Day. Where all women can take the day to do whatever they want without the distraction of work or children. Just a day for us.

-Stick shift or automatic transmission?
Automatic. I’ve never learned how to drive a stick

-Name two things on your bucket list (life list).
A month long trip to Ireland and Scotland and a week long trip to Hawaii for Christmas.

-If you could be a superhero, what would be your power?
Hmmm….that is a tie between flying and speed, just like Flash Gordon. I like the idea of being able to fly anywhere I want to go, getting there a lot quicker than driving a car. Then again, I don’t like the thought of bugs in my face. On the other hand, I want to be able to clean the house spotless in like fifteen minutes, so speed would be a bonus.

-What was the last movie you saw. Thumbs up or thumbs down?
Underworld. Two thumbs up. I absolutely love that series. I think Kate Beckinsale is amazing. I never would’ve chosen to see it 3-D, but couldn’t find it in standard digital. But after having the experience, I wouldn’t change a thing. It was an awesome movie. I cannot wait to add it to my home movie collection

Now, on to the really important stuff…your debut novel, Pillars in Time, published by Decadent Publishing.

-It’s one hundred years in the future and Pillars in Time is a classic novel that sullen teens are forced to read in freshman English. The teacher asks them to give the story’s theme? What’s the right answer?
Home is where the heart is. It doesn’t matter what century you’re born in, but it matters to be where you feel you belong.

-The heroine of Pillars in Time is Cadence Hamilton, an architect. She’s ambitious and no doubt smart and she’s going to take on one of the biggest jobs of her career, renovating a Scottish caste. Wow! The woman doesn’t start small. Tells us some more about Cadence.
She is a headstrong, independent, caring woman. She had a rough childhood with her parents dying in a house fire. Her best friend’s mom fought for custody of her when she found out her uncle was a drunk and mentally abusive. His harsh treatment of her pushed Cadence to make something of herself. She fell in love with architecture when taking a drafting class in high school.

-Then there’s the hero, Nicholas Kincaid, sole heir to Dunmaben castle. It sounds like the poor guy’s got a dilemma. Get married or get poor. Since he’s Scottish, I’m guessing there’s a kilt involved. Mmmm, kilt (eyes glass over)…. yummers. So who is this guy?
He’s extremely stubborn, but more than that, he is loyal. His best friend is his twin brother, and he is hurt when Collin goes missing. He’s also lost both of his parents to a fire, a stable fire. Because of both situations, he’s been forced into situations he cared to avoid and finds himself in charge of the well being of all of Dunmaben’s people. He wants nothing but the best for them. When he is forced to make the decision to marry or forfeit his lands, it is no choice for him at all.

-Cool. So we have thoroughly modern Cadence and her hot Scottish hunk from the days before indoor plumbing. What inspired this pairing? What was your inspiration for writing this story?
I’ve always walked around life wondering “what if I was transported back in time”. My favorite author, Lynn Kurland, first put the idea in my head with one of her time travel novels. I’ve always been fascinated with the medieval period and knew that if I were to ever write a novel, it’d be centered around that time frame. So much of myself is in Cadence. I took architectural drafting for two years in high school and wanted to become an architect. So I find that she can be what I wanted to be. Part of the reason for writing this story is to put my love story in fiction, with just different characters and setting.

-And finally, why should I (the reader) pick up a copy of Pillars in Time? In other words, sell it baby, sell it!

If you love a good, realistic chemistry, love-knows-no-boundaries love story, Pillars in Time is for you. I started out with the goal of writing a story, with the exception of the time travel aspect, that is as real as it could get. Let’s face it: none of us never know when “the one” walks into our lives. A true relationship blossoms after spending time and getting to know one another on an even playing field. Cadence and Nicholas are tested, but in the end, they know that they are “the one” for one another.

Okay folks, so what do you expect to find under a Scotsman’s kilt? The Lost City of Atlantis? Spiderman underoos? Post your answer in the comments below for a chance to win a free copy of Pillars in Time.

Pillars of Time is available from Decadent Publishing. Make sure you visit Erin at her website for more information on her writing.

The Underworld series are so much fun! Anyway, thanks Erin, for guest posting at my blog!

  2. National Women’s Day sounds like a great holiday. :) A wonderful interview. Oh, and under a Scotsman’s kilt, there should be absolutely nothing but what he was born with. LOL
